Hello, Boondocketeers!
...and Welcome to our Inaugural Post!

We have been hard at work here in Moco, rolling out our long awaited and highly anticipated Winter Menu, which features such comfort faves as Open Face Roast Beef over Toasted Brioche, and my grandmother's 70+ year old Meatloaf recipe.  Also making their long awaited debut to the menu is Mashed Potatoes and homemade, rich brown Gravy. So far, reviews have been very favorable; with most folks professing that our latest specialty Menu is our best one to date!

We are also proud to announce that we raised over $4000 in October for the Susan G. Koman for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. We have had many charitable fundraisers in the past, and this one has remained as one of our favorites. We here at The Boondocks would like to personally thank each and every patron who dined with us and contributed to this wonderful cause.

Lastly, we would like to congratulate former Boondocks alumni Sarah Privier on accepting a position at the Bilas Inn in Ocala, FL. as Head Chef for their four star golf resort. Sarah was an employee at The Boondocks from 2008 to 2011, and also a graduate of Hocking College's Culinary Arts program. We wish Sarah all the best in her future endeavors as she begins an exciting new chapter in her Culinary career!

Happy New Year!

Hello, hello! We hope you had a safe and fun New Years Eve...may you prosper in 2015!

It's Deep Fried Gator Weekend at The Boondocks, not to mention Ohio Valley Opry time. Morgan County will be abuzz with out of town and local patrons alike, and we surely look forward to all the fun they bring. If you've never tried Deep Fried Alligator before, we encourage you to stop in and indulge in this tasty treat. We believe that our recipe is uniquely different from any other; buttermilk soaked alligator tenderloin dredged in mild, savory batter and paired with cool, creamy, spicy Cajun Ranch sauce. Delicious!

Just a reminder, we offer full catered banquet services right on site at The Boondocks. A fully furnished room that seats up to 60 can be reserved upon request and availability by calling the restaurant. Perfect for birthdays, meetings, wedding reception dinners or reunions.  Again, please call ahead to confirm availability.

....who is ready for Valentine's Day?!

It's right around the corner...so get the flowers and candy ready! And come on down to The Boondocks for a great meal for two at an even better price.
We're offering two (2) 10 oz. Ribeye Steaks with Baked Potatoes, Salad, Rolls, AND table side Dessert (by your's truly!) for just $34.99 -- that's right...$34.99! First come, first serve, so get there early for the best availability. Open til 9 PM...hope to see you there!

How about this snow, huh? Hope you're all staying warm and toasty indoors. Personally, I'm working on installing a pot belly wood stove in my garage to keep my paints and fluids from freezing again like last season. Plus, it keeps my lovable mutts Daisy and Chester from turning into pup sickles (terrible joke, I know...). Thank goodness for my wonderful neighbors Ed & Donna Davis for helping to keep these flea bags warm while I tinker away on this project.

Here's hoping for an early Spring in March...stay warm, drive safe and I'll see you in a month!

Welcome, Spring!

...finally...Spring looks to be just around the corner! And we here at The Boondocks, for one, could not be happier. The snow is always a pain for us to keep up with out here in the country. And I would be lying if I said I am not happy to put the plows away for the year.

Hope you folks will be in this weekend for Deep Fried Gator Bites and a sampling of a specialty burger from our up and coming Spring and Summer menu -- the El Diablo! An 8 oz. hand-crushed burger patty topped with Swiss, Jalapenos, fresh fried Cayenne Onion Straws, and finished with our Sriracha Mayonnaise. Fiery, creamy...and savory. Perfect for those who love their taste buds en fuego.

April Showers...

I am SOOO ready for cook out weather! If there is one thing I look forward to every Spring and Summer, it is getting together with my family for fresh meat hot off the grill (and, of course, My mama's potato salad). Fresh, hand-crushed beef seasoned just right...straight from the coals and into my mouth. We use the very same recipes at The Boondocks when it comes to our burgers. Because, when you want a specialty burger, it had better be special...am I right?

We have been very blessed at The Boondocks in catering for weddings this year, both locally and abroad. With prices set reasonably and sensibly, we can offer quality meals more easily than you can find anywhere.Just ring us anytime; and we will be happy to talk with you about planning a menu, free of charge.

Just a reminder: it's Bike Season. Look twice and save a life out there on the road! And as a motorcycle enthusiast and a military vet, I want to invite all my fellow Brothers & Sisters in Arms in for a great meal if they happen to be visiting our neck of the woods this season. You'll get a discount for your service, and have plenty of bike-friendly parking away from the road and loose gravel. We don't serve beer, however...unless you count IBC! Safe travels, and until next time...!

...where the heck are the Flowers?!

I don't know about you folks, but my garden is really struggling. My father-in-law, a farmer of 50 years, tells me that we are dry from lack of rain for this time of year; yet my roses and berry plants are thriving (???). If any of you folks have any ideas for keeping the garden moist (besides hosing it every 8 hours), ol' Bobbo is all ears!

May saw the loss of a great patron and even better friend, Mrs. Imogene Tucker-Friendt, from New Lexington, Ohio. A young 89, Imogene (or Ginny, as she liked her friends to call her) was a retired florist and elementary school teacher from Perry County. She always made it a point to stop into The Boondocks on her weekly trips over to Muskinghum Valley Health Center in Malta, and brought joy and fun to everyone here. A spunky gal who prided herself on being able to eat a Monster Burger all by herself, she will be sadly missed amongst the staff and fellow patrons alike.

In brighter news however, May also saw the success of our 1st annual "Viddles for Vets" benefit where the raised over $3000 to donate towards hungry and homeless Ohio veterans of war -- in one day! We could not be prouder of our patrons and staff for contributing to such a great and worthy cause...thank you again for making this a very successful charity!

Here's hoping to a wonderful (and wetter!) June...until next time, chew each bite 20 times before swallowing, and avoid taking wooden nickles!

Savoring the Weather

Garden veggies are in full swing here in Ohio, and nothing personifies that better for me than a ripe, juicy Beefeater tomato. We pride ourselves on using as much Ohio-grown produce as possible here at Tha Docks..and I think it really shows in our foods flavors.

Recently, we switched meat providers as our long time beef purveyors are officially retiring. We wish Martha and Jan Mersinger in Wisconsin the best as they begin the second half of their life's journey.

...and we usher in the era of New Market Meats out of Columbus, Ohio. A culmination of three different processing companies, Three Markets works exclusively with small businesses to provide the freshest Ohio beef raised and brought to sale with the most care available. Happy Independence Day!

I'll keep this one short, as we all get ready for good food, great fun, and God willing, all our families. We here at The Boondocks would especially like to thank all of our service men and women both at home and abroad, who sacrifice their own well being to assure ours here in these United States of America.

Go Raiders!

High school Football is upon us, folks. And we here at The Boondocks can not wait to see how our home grown Raiders do this season! Of course, we wish the best of luck to ALL neighboring teams as well (we just happen to be a little biased about them Raiders). SE Ohio often provides some of the best gridiron action available in the Buckeye State, and personally, I am stoked to see what the next ten weeks unfolds.

If you missed out on our Deep Fried Alligator special this weekend, don't fret; we run it every 3rd weekend of the month. Tender slices of wild caught Alligator Tenderloin is marinated overnight in savory and Creole spices, then battered and flash fried to order, Served with a cool, creamy Cajun Ranch sauce for dipping, it's been a unique staple of The Boondocks since we first opened our doors in 2007.

It's been a hot one this month...stop in for one of our Root beer Floats made with real Triple Bean Vanilla ice cream and IBC Root beer poured right from the glass bottle.

In appreciation and observance of those who gave their all during the horrific actions that took place on 9/11/2001, we will be offering 25 percent off all meals for active duty service mean and women; to include Fire, Military, Police, Rescue and Transport for the remainder of September

Happy Halloween!

Ok, ok...so its not quite Halloween yet; but I am pumped, nonetheless!

Gonna rock out my best costume YET at Allison Rucker's annual
Halloween party. Lets just say, it's gonna be Stone Cold stunning.

So, how is everyone liking the new All American Favorites menu at Tha Docks? So far, reviews have been very favorable regarding our homemade beef Gravy, freshly roasted and shaved Beef Tenderloin, calves Liver & Onions and a whole host of other stick-to-your-ribs treats available every day. Mashed Potatoes seem to be going over very well, also. You folks in Moco broke me...I always said as a Chef, I would never serve ''Mash Taters'' in any of my restaurants. BUT, consumer demands do not fall on deaf ears and, as a proud provider for my constituents, it looks like those mushy fellers are here to stay.

On a personal note: I would like to take a moment and quell a low lying rumor that The Boondocks BBQ & Grill will be selling out to a certain corporate food chain or, even worse, moving to a larger city or area. To be perfectly clear: WE ARE HERE TO STAY. We are proud to have our roots in Morgan County, and plan on staying around as long as you good people will allow us to.

So, if you happen to be around the local watering hole in your neck of the woods, and you hear that The Boondocks is packing up and heading out...rest assured, it's all here-say. What's that old saying about rumors, again...??

Some people just have too much Leisure Time on their hands, its seems. ;)

Gobble, gobble, gobble!

Turkey Day is right around the corner, and we here at The Boondocks couldn't be happier to help get you in the patriotic spirit that our forefathers bore while traversing through this great land so long ago...

Some of you may not know this, but Maria Burdette-Wilson makes every pie we serve in house by hand with the best ingredients: clarified lard and farm fresh eggs in the dough, custard-style home made filling in her Pumpkin Pies. And not just the Punkin' ones, either! All her pies are hand made for the freshest taste possible. We sell about a pie a day, times 355 working days we are open a year...equals a WHOLE lotta thank you's on our part to our reigning blue ribbon pie queen. Oh yeah, she hand makes about 4,500 rolls a year, too (no big deal).

We will also be serving roasted turkey dinners throughout the month, with all proceeds from their sales going towards feeding and housing hungry vets in Ohio. If anyone is interested in donating separately towards this cause, please contact with myself (Bobby) or Maria Burdette at 740 962 4100. This will be our 3rd year working with the Salvation Army, and every dime donated is greatly appreciated.

Happy Birthday to The Boondocks!  ...and Happy Holidays!

It's that special time of year again, and Santa Claus looks to be right around the corner. As for The Boondocks, Old Saint Nick will be bringing new kitchen floors, reworked lighting and a host of other repairs and upgrades that the restaurant has sorely needed throughout the last few years. We will be closing on January 1st until January 15th to get these projects underway. We will reopen on the 15th at  11 am with (fingers crossed!) all of these updates finished and fabulous.

We take this time also to thoroughly deep clean our cooking equipment, freezers, refrigeration units and many other little nooks and crannies that pesky grease and grime like to hide in throughout the year. Fresh paint, newly lacquered table tops, updated restrooms...we're hoping it looks great.

We were able to raise over $800 dollars towards our Salvation Army donations goal we began in November. We'd like to personally thank everyone who contributed in one way or the other. Great causes for great people.

Lastly. we hope everyone has a safe and fun Holiday Season. Enjoy the snow (we HOPE!), the fam and the food. Savor every moment, folks...you never know how many more you'll have. So, from all of Us, to all of You - here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Happy (Belated) New Year!

It's been cold, snowy and windy here in the (not so Dirty) South of the Buckeye state thus far. And I, for one, am already tired of it! One good thing to come from cold weather, though, is the promise of homemade soups and canned fruits just aching to be cracked open.We struggled at The 'Docks to get back open by the 15th (due to our restorations), but I am happy to announce that all systems were a-GO! Newly remodeled restrooms, re-varnished Tables...and a brand new Kitchen floor. We're pretty stoked. We hope you'll be as well!

We will be hosting guitarist Chris Knoderer (owner of Forrest Hills Golf Course in Glouster, Ohio) the weekend of the 26th, from 5 pm to 9 pm. Chris will be playing live music to accompany your dinner all evening long.

Also, look for our latest write up in Ohio Country Living Magazine, where we will be featured for our nomination as one of Ohio's Top 25 Small Town Eateries. What a honor!

Valentine's Day is a-Commin'!

Hello folks, and I sincerely hope you're all keeping warm during this blustery SE Ohio winter. We're hard at work here preparing for our big Valentine's Day menu. We'll feature Prime Rib au Jus, Whipped Potatoes, Salad and fresh made Rolls...along with table side desserts made by our Certifed Ex. Chef Bobby (tootin' my own horn, here!), live music and a rustic home style atmosphere that's perfect for that special someone to cozy up to. Hope to see you there!
